Unlike in the game of Jumanji we do not have 3 lives to spare and wait until the last life to take the step to achieve your dream life. As you bid 2017 goodbye and usher in the new year lets keep in mind that this year can be your year, if you want it to be!
Well, it is that time of the year again to making new resolutions or achieving older ones. Resolutions often have a long-term goal in mind, for 2018 instead of making it lasts only two months and say something like, “I’ll start in tomorrow”, this year let’s stick to our goals and achieve them.
Making a New Year’s resolution is easy. Sticking with it and actually achieving the goals, on the other hand, is very very hard!
Here’s how to identify the right way to make resolutions work and to achieve it.
1. Set Realistic Goals
Setting realistic career expectations is a major key to having a successful career. How else do you think your would progress in your career or life without taking some time out to think about what you can do and want to do?
But first, the only way to keep track of being realistic with your goals is to take a look at what you have accomplished. Secondly, decide where you want to be in the next five years to come and figure out what you need to do to make it happen.
2. Measure Progress
What better way to keep track of your new year resolution then to keep track of your progress in order to achieve your goals. Break each goal down into sub-goals and you can put into a timeframe which allows you to measure your progress.
Always, keep in mind when measuring your progress, success is an up-and-down curve, you might do great one month but the next one could be tough. When that happens, look at the bigger picture and move forward towards your goal.
3. Reward Yourself
Don’t beat yourself up. Minor missteps during the process of reaching your goals are completely OKAY. Calm down.
Achievements are achievements regardless of the size. Best way to know if you deserve a reward will be by making a simple list outlining everything you have done this year (like a checklist). It can be anythings as long as it is ticked of your resolution list, you can reward yourself.
Look at it and celebrate your achievements!
