Can you make your life worth while?
Last week we spoke about selling yourself in an interview and let your personal brand shine through and make an excellent impression to reach #Studygreatness & #Careergreatness
Today we will discuss life references and how where you come from doesn’t define you. Many of you may have heard the expression, where you come from doesn’t define you, and it’s very true, but it does definitely shape you and you need to take from it what you consider is best for you.
Let’s take this example – two brothers who grew up in the poorer part of town, where drugs and being part of gangs was the norm. Both parents were hardworking individuals and tried to provide as best they can for both boys. Moving on a few years, we look at the picture again – one boy went on to shape his life his way, getting top marks at school and then in university; thereafter getting a great job to gain good experience and went on to form his own company several years later. The other brother, chose to follow the life of the streets, peddling drugs and running with the gangs, landing up in jail several times and was eventually killed. One allowed his past to define him but the other allowed the past to shape him into wanting something different for his life and went on to achieve exactly that. This is all about the choices that you make in your life and then have to live with the outcomes of those choices.
I am here to tell you that YOU are the creator of your life – you set the scene for what is going to happen and only YOU can decide what is right for you.
This is not about what your parents want, what your friends are doing or suggesting, it’s not about where you come from – it’s about you knowing or working hard to determine exactly what you see for your life and doing whatever it takes to make that happen.
Going to University is not the only path you can take but also understand it’s not only about the education provided, it’s also about making the most of what you discover and experience there. Your storyboard may actually be to jump into entrepreneurship and start your own business – it may be about taking your passion and turning that into a business – the possibilities are endless, or you could take your passion and transform it into a career – you must decide. With specialist help, this can be developed into a full-blown future plan that maps out your planned journey.
To get the most out of it, once again, you must know what you want for your future and what exactly you need to make that happen. Do not limit yourself or allow others (including your parents) to distract you from your vision – you need to live your own life after all.
